Applications being accepted for The 2009 Greater Youngstown Italian Festival Pageant

Calling all ladies who are proud of their Italian heritage!
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2009 Greater Youngstown Italian Festival Pageant. Any young lady between the ages of 16-23 can enter if they have Italian as part of their descent.
This year, the pageant will be taking place on Friday, July 31st.  It is one of the main events to help kick-off the first night of the 24th Annual Greater Youngstown Italian Festival, which will be held along Federal Plaza in downtown Youngstown from July 31st to August 2nd.
The pageant is scheduled from 7:30 to 9:00pm on the main stage, which will be located on Federal Street, in front of the former Phar-Mor building.
The pageant is culture-based. The pageant gives young ladies the chance to present a speech about their Italian heritage and talk about what being Italian means to them.  A talent portion is also a part of the show.  In the past, participants have highlighted everything from speech skills, singing, dancing, instrumentals, and a number of other hobbies to showcase their talent of choice.
If you would like more information on becoming a part of the pageant, feel free to call or e-mail Anthony Julian at                330-799-8184         or ACJ90JAG@SBCGLOBAL.NET.  The deadline to sign-up for the pageant is Saturday, July 4th, 2009.

The mission of The Community Art Projects Foundation (CAPF) is to raise awareness of the value of regional art through involvement of adult area artists by creating artistic works that will benefit our community.
Eastwood Mall in Niles has offered to host our project this fall/winter of 2009. The scope of this project will be a 15’x 20’ mosaic mural consisting of approximately 70 individual panels when assembled will then depict one large image representing artistic views of the community. Each panel will be the creation of local individual artists.Upon the installation of the mural we will host a public grand opening gala inviting the press, introducing the artists, and giving recognition to donors. The efforts of this project will attract positive interest in our extended communities. We look forward to participation from community artists and anticipate strong community support. Monetary contributions beyond the expense of the project will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank and Angels for Animals.
