Taylor Swift paid more than $160,000 for the city permit connected to her recent wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said during a July 10 press conference.
The mayor addressed the payment after reporters asked whether Swift would reimburse the city for police overtime related to the high-profile event. Mamdani said the permit covered both the wedding and the city’s response, including the public safety measures required around the Manhattan venue. He added that the permit was finalized only days before the celebration.
Swift and Kelce married at Madison Square Garden on July 3. The event brought street closures, traffic restrictions and a significant police presence to the surrounding area as guests and onlookers arrived.
Large private events often require special permits when they affect public streets, transportation or city services. Organizers are generally responsible for the related costs.
The mayor’s comments clarified that Swift had already paid the permit charge associated with the wedding and the municipal response.
