Lance Bass has opened up about the financial reality of being part of one of the most successful boy bands of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
During an October 8 appearance on The Zach Sang Show, the singer revealed that he and his *NSYNC bandmates received a daily allowance of just $35 while building their careers.
Bass recalled that the group’s first substantial paycheck was only $10,000, despite years of chart-topping albums, sold-out concerts, and major merchandise sales. He said the members had effectively worked for two or three years without receiving significant compensation.
The singer also addressed the widespread assumption that *NSYNC’s commercial success made every member wealthy. Bass explained that his earnings from the group were much smaller than many fans might expect.
Although he continues to receive royalties from the band’s music, Bass said those payments are relatively modest.
He added that his financial situation improved after *NSYNC went on hiatus in 2002, allowing him to pursue other entertainment and business opportunities.
