What Made You Smile in 2020?

What’s the one moment from 2020 that sticks out to YOU as a moment you smiled . . . and it’s okay if it isn’t a pop culture, nationwide moment.  Maybe it was something local or personal. Call, message, or post on @hot101fm

2020 has been a very rough year for pretty much everyone worldwide, with the possible exceptions of:  Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

“Rolling Stone” put together a list of “33 Moments That Made Us Smile in 2020,” and it covers everything from entertainment and social media to good news stories and politics.

It’s worth pointing out that not EVERYONE would smile at ALL these things . . . because we’re all different people, and that’s fine.  But nevertheless, here are some highlights:

1.  January 26th:  Lizzo crushed it on FLUTE at the Grammys.

2.  March 22nd:  New Yorkers began their 7:00 P.M. cheer for frontline workers.

3.  April 2nd:  Dolly Parton launched her series of bedtime stories for kids.

4.  April 15th:  “Riverdale” did “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”.

5.  April 16th:  Disney aired the first Disney Family Singalong special.

6.  July 7th:  Jon Hamm and Patton Oswalt re-created the Battle of Wits from “The Princess Bride” on Quibi.  (Anybody remember Quibi???)

7.  July 13th:  The Washington Football Team ditched its very controversial “Redskins” franchise name.

8.  July 23rd and December 11th:  Taylor Swift surprised the world with a new album, TWICE.  First with “Folklore” and then with “Evermore”.

9.  August 26th:  The Milwaukee Bucks walked off the court in protest of police brutality.  It happened three days after police in Kenosha, Wisconsin shot Jacob Blake seven times as he attempted to enter a vehicle with three of his children.  Jacob is Black, and he was unarmed.

10.  August 30th:  Lady Gaga’s VMA performance:  A medley of “Chromatica” tracks over about 10 minutes with great choreography, costumes, and a special appearance from Ariana Grande for “Rain on Me”.

11.  September 25th:  Nathan Apodaca, a.k.a. “420doggface208,” went viral on TikTok with his 20-second video where he rode a longboard, swigged a bottle of cran-raspberry juice, and sang a bit of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”.

12.  October 6th:  Miley Cyrus unleashed her “Heart of Glass” cover.

13.  November 8th:  “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reunited on HBOMax, and BOTH Aunt Vivs participated.

14.  November 19th:  A tiny OWL emerged from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

(RollingStone.com has the whole list.)
